Day of the Dead celebration

The very talented Kat Moya is throwing a Day of the Dead celebration called “Por Vida” on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Junctionview Studios in Columbus. She has put tons of work into organizing the event and it seems like it’s going to be a huge success. The party will include a Day of the Dead themed gallery show. I’ve done a new painting for the show, and I’m very excited to see the new work by other participating artists like Jason Goad, Mike Newton, Dan Gerdeman, Adam Brouilette, Sharon Bell, Laura Alexander, Thia Bella and many more. Please see the attached poster for further details, and come out and honor the dead while having a great time.

Summer fun…

This summer continues to be one of the best ever. Next up is a show at Grip Technology, opening on Friday August 29. I’m currently working on all new paintings to show at their downtown Columbus office. A special thanks goes out to Dustin and Justin for the chance to get up downtown. This past July was unprecedented… I got to meet a personal hero, Barry McGee in Pittsburgh, and the CowBrow show at Junctionview Studios was a barn burner. Thanks to everyone who came out to see the show and support the group. I was lucky to meet some really cool folks at the opening I’ve added the 3 new paintings from the “Cow Tipping” show to my gallery page.

Group Show 7/26 at Junctionview in Grandview

I recently joined a group of some of Columbus, Ohio’s finest “low-brow” artists, known as CowBrow (Cowtown Low Brow). The group has a very grand plan in the works, to unleash on the state in 2009/2010. In the meantime we are putting on a smaller show on Saturday, July 26th at Junctionview Studios in Grandview, OH. This is good news for all of you local collectors because the artwork at the 7/26 “Cow Tipping” show will be very affordable and priced to move! So now is your chance to be one of the lucky few to own a piece by Chi-Kit Kwong, get your own Clinton Reno print, or discover Skye Dalrymple before anyone else. So come check us out on Saturday, 7/26 from 7pm to 11pm. You can also see examples of each artists’ past work on the CowBrow myspace page.

New paintings added to Gallery page

I’ve added the 10 new paintings from the Dirty Wood show to the Gallery
page of www.joeymonsoon.com

It’s called gratitude (and that’s right).

The opening (and closing) night of the Dirty Wood show at Chop Chop Gallery
was great. Thank you to everyone who made it to the show that night, especially
those who traveled from out of town. Your attendance and support made all of
the work put into the show, very rewarding. Hats off to Craig Dransfield,
Mike Newton and Don Pendleton for the amazing art and hard work.
An extra thanks to Craig for sharing some secrets of the trade.

Dirty Wood – Sat. 6/21 at Chop Chop Gallery

I am curating a group show at Chop Chop Gallery on Saturday, June 21. “Dirty Wood”, a one-night only show will include new paintings and drawings by me, Mike Newton, Don Pendleton, and Craig Dransfield.

Needless to say, I’m very happy to be exhibiting with these 3 talented artists and all-around swell guys. Please plan to come by on Saturday 06/21/08 and spend the first night of Summer with friends and art.

Stoked.org benefit art show

STOKED is doing good things. Like mentoring inner-city kids and taking them skateboarding, snowboarding and surfing (none of which I can do). They were also really nice and invited me to contribute to their upcoming art auction in Los Angeles on April 19th. Over 60 artists donated art done on skate decks. It’s a full-on event with music, skating and a silent art auction. If you are one of the 3 people that I know in LA, please go… I have a painting hanging in LA for fuck’s sake. And remember, all the proceeds go to the kids.
